Sanger, Texas

Here is a little history about our town of Sanger, Texas. Sanger was founded in 1886 as a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. Cattle from the ranches of north Denton County were driven up the old cattle trails through Sanger to northern markets. The cattle industry of the prairies of north Denton County contributed to the founding of the town, and wheat growing contributed substantially to its economy as did the production of oats, maize, millet and cotton. Santa Fe named Sanger in honor of one of its customers, the Sanger family who owned stores in Waco and Dallas. The F.M. Ready family was the first to settle in Sanger in October 1887, the same year as the first engine and caboose. The population in 2006 was 6,200. Sanger is positioned within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, 51 miles Northwest of Dallas and 48 miles Northeast of Fort Worth. We live outside of town approximately 1.5 miles. Last year the town of Sanger had money left over from there budget and had a painter paint a really neat picture on the side of the road coming into town. I have tried twice to get pictures of it but was afraid of getting ran over by traffic. I will try again on the weekend and post it later.
